Fall funk

The fall funk…shorter days, dark nights and cold weather. Can you hear the “California Dreaming” in the background?

I admire people who aren’t bothered by the season change. Instead of feeing un-energized and lethargic, they power on full strength.
Bring on the Winter Solstice in December. Minute by minute the days will get longer and lighter. Until then, travel dreams are seeing me through. Here’s are a few of my travel crushes…

Travel hack – the humble clothespin is an overachiever on vacation

Small and mighty, the humble, simple clothespin is one of my packing staples.  What’s it good for?

  • Pull your hotel curtains together so there isn’t that irritating ray of sunlight that could wake you up early.
  • Close snacks so they won’t attract bugs (or worse!).
  • Hang up undies to dry on a coat hanger.  Side note: ExOfficio undies are the bomb–wash in the sink & they are dry within a few hours.  Here’s the link: http://www.exofficio.com
  • anything else you can think of…

disclaimer: my Mom deserves credit for this tip–she originally suggested it to me. Thanks Mom.

Solo travel security tip for under $10

For under ten bucks a small door stop wedge is affordable security for any traveler.  It’s especially reassuring to me when I’m solo, though.  It’s small & lightweight for packing and doesn’t require batteries like some more expensive door wedges with alarms.  No, it’s not Fort Knox level safety, but it’s some reassurance when I’m sleeping in hotel rooms without a deadbolt or inside chain lock.  You can find one at your local hardware store or online.  This bright yellow is easy to spot so I remember it when packing & checking out: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/132104631107?chn=ps&dispItem=1
